Gaffer: I enjoyed victory at Ipswich, but don't see Kenny Jackett as Portsmouth boss long-term

So how do you assess that Pompey performance?

I really enjoyed it, although I was nervous to start with considering their fans were coming back to Portman Road.

Ours gave us a massive boost last week. For Ipswich it might have offered the turnaround that Paul Lambert needed – but had the opposite effect.

Their central defenders looked really nervous in the opening 10-15 minutes, they were trying to play it out from the back and were being closed down at every opportunity.

The groans from the home fans grew louder as the game went on and they booed their players off at half-time.

The truth is it could have been more than the 2-0 win which we achieved.

That’s successive promotion rivals defeated now.

Perhaps Blackpool was the turning point, something seems to have changed after that.

We’ve had these little runs where we’ve played terrible, but then do better against top teams.

We’ll probably do well on Tuesday and Friday, then lose to someone like Wigan.

That’s the nature of this side, we give it a better go against higher teams, just like we have seen in the last few Saturdays.

What’s your take on Kenny Jackett’s remarkable turnaround?

I’m a back-the-manager kind of guy, but have flip flopped over the last few months.

I succumbed to the fact that he would have to go, so fair play to the board for sticking by him.

In a way he has turned it around, but I don’t think I would want him here beyond this season, regardless of what happens.

That front four should win you most games. Chuck in Michael Jacobs and Ellis Harrison and we should win the majority of matches.

Jackett’s contract is up at the end of the season. If he takes us up, you’d have to give him a chance in the Championship.

However, in the medium to long term we need somebody different. I can’t put up with another three years.

Who was your man of the match?

It has got to be Ryan Williams. He’s had chances in recent weeks, but finally he’s put some of them away.

It wasn’t just his goals, but he was a menace through pressurising and closing down the Ipswich centre-halves.

I’m not quite sure he is the answer in the number 10 role, he doesn’t quite link up play enough, we probably need another in that position.

Williams is more suited out wide. He’s a typical Pompey player who closes down people, runs around and gives his all. I really like that.
